Red Light Therapy
Red Light Therapy and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in Vancouver, BC
Red light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of low-level red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular energy production. At a biological level, it activates mitochondria — the powerhouses of your skin cells — triggering natural processes of repair, collagen synthesis, and inflammation reduction.
Concerns
Scarring
Fine Line & Wrinkles
Hyperpigmentation
Sun damage & precancerous lesions
Acne
Treatment Time
20-30 minutes
Downtime
There’s little to no downtime and the treatment is very comfortable. With a topical solution (PDT), expect a few days of redness and peeling, with recovery in 5–7 days.
How It Works
For red light therapy, it used on its own to support recovery and reduce inflammation. For PDT, a specialized topical solution is applied to the skin and absorbed into damaged cells. A light source then activates the solution, selectively targeting these cells while stimulating skin renewal and healing.
Consultation & Planning
Each treatment begins with a personalized consultation to assess your skin and goals. A customized plan will be created, and package options are available, as patients often see the best results for recovery with a series of treatments.

What is the difference between red light therapy and photodynamic therapy (PDT)?
Red light therapy uses light energy alone to stimulate the skin's natural healing response — it is gentle, painless, and requires no preparation. PDT involves a photosensitising solution applied before light activation, making it more potent and suited to treating specific skin conditions. We will recommend the most appropriate option based on your skin concerns and goals.
What skin concerns does red light therapy treat?
Red light therapy is effective for a wide range of concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, loss of skin firmness, uneven skin tone, redness and rosacea, mild acne, and general dullness. It is also used to accelerate healing post-procedure and reduce inflammation following more intensive treatments.
What conditions is PDT used to treat?
PDT is clinically used to treat acne vulgaris, actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous sun spots), superficial skin cancers, sun damage, and sebaceous gland overactivity. It is one of the most evidence-backed treatments available for moderate-to-severe acne and extensive photodamage.
Is red light therapy painful?
Red light therapy is entirely painless. Most patients describe a gentle warmth during treatment and leave the session feeling relaxed. There is no downtime, no redness, and no recovery period — making it one of the most comfortable treatments we offer.
Can I combine red light therapy with other treatments?
Absolutely. Red light therapy pairs exceptionally well with microneedling, facials, chemical peels, and laser treatments — both to enhance results and to support the skin's recovery. It is frequently used in the days following more intensive procedures to calm inflammation and accelerate healing.
How does red light therapy support collagen production?
Red light at wavelengths of 630 to 660 nanometres penetrates the dermis and stimulates fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin. Over a course of treatments, this results in measurably firmer, more resilient skin with a visible reduction in fine lines and improved overall texture.

Dr. Paul Denton's commitment to quality work and natural-looking results is evident in everything he does. When we discussed a deep plane face and neck lift, the team also introduced the idea of a lip lift—something I hadn’t considered, but it turned out to make a world of difference. I truly felt cared for every step of the way.
