Pico Laser in Vancouver, BC
The Pico Glow™ laser emits ultra-short bursts of energy (Nano and picosecond pulses) to stimulate collagen production and promote skin cell turnover. The results are a reduction in excess pigmentation, uneven skin tone, and a smoother, more even complexion. Many of our clients opt for a series of treatments to achieve their desired results.
Concerns
Hyperpigmentation
Skin Texture
Treatment Time
30–45 minutes
Downtime
Minimal; mild redness or warmth may occur and typically resolves within a few hours to 24 hours. Pigmented areas may temporarily darken before fading naturally.
How It Works
The laser energy targets excess pigment beneath the skin’s surface without overheating the skin. By shattering pigment into microscopic particles, the body gradually eliminates discoloration while stimulating collagen for brighter, smoother skin over time.
Consultation & Planning
Most patients benefit from a series of 2–4 Pico laser treatments, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, depending on pigmentation depth and desired results.

Why does pigmentation sometimes darken before clearing?
This is one of the most common concerns patients have and it's actually a sign the treatment is working exactly as intended. When the Pico's energy shatters pigment particles, the fragments rise toward the surface before the body begins clearing them. What you're seeing is the pigment on its way out. Darkening before lightening is part of the biological process, not a complication. The key is protecting the skin with SPF and not picking at any flaking during this window.
Why are multiple sessions needed?
Pigment exists at multiple depths within the skin and is often layered over time. A single treatment can only safely address a portion of that pigment. Multiple sessions allow for controlled clearing without overwhelming the skin or increasing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Is Pico safe for melasma, or can it make it worse?
Pico is one of the few laser technologies that can be used cautiously for melasma because it minimizes heat. However, melasma is a chronic condition influenced by hormones and sun exposure. Pico can improve it, but it does not “cure” it, and maintenance is often required.
Is Pico better than IPL for pigmentation?
They treat pigmentation differently. Pico is more precise and safer for deeper or stubborn pigment, while IPL is better for widespread superficial sun damage and redness. Many Vancouver patients benefit from using both at different stages.
Who is not an ideal candidate for Pico laser?
Patients with active infections, uncontrolled melasma, or unrealistic expectations of instant clearance may require alternative or supportive treatments first.
Is it safe for all skin tones?
Yes. Because the Pico laser works through pressure rather than heat, it significantly reduces the risk of pigmentation changes that older laser systems carried, particularly for darker skin tones. We assess every patient's skin individually before treatment and adjust settings accordingly, including patch testing for patients with higher melanin levels.

The results were subtle. In fact I often have to show my ID to prove that I am a senior. I love and appreciate the results!
