Neck Lift Surgery in Vancouver, BC
A neck lift is designed to improve visible signs of aging through the neck and jawline, including loose skin, neck laxity, muscle banding and loss of definition beneath the chin. At Refine Cosmetic Surgery in Vancouver, Dr. Paul Denton tailors the surgical approach to each patient's anatomy rather than using one technique for every neck.
Your neck lift journey begins with a consultation with Dr. Paul Denton in Vancouver, where he assesses skin laxity, platysmal banding, fat distribution, jawline definition and overall neck anatomy. Based on your concerns and examination, he will determine whether you are best suited for a deep plane neck lift, a more focused platysmaplasty, or a combination of techniques.
A deep plane neck lift addresses the deeper tissues of the neck to improve laxity and restore a smoother, more defined contour beneath the chin and along the jawline, while a platysmaplasty primarily tightens and repositions the platysma muscle when muscle separation or neck banding is the main concern.
Incisions are typically placed discreetly around and behind the ears, with a small incision beneath the chin when additional access to the platysma or deeper neck structures is required. Neck lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia at one of our accredited surgical facilities, and patients are generally able to return home the same day.
After neck lift surgery, swelling, bruising, tightness and temporary numbness around the neck and jawline are common during the first one to two weeks. Most patients feel increasingly comfortable returning to normal daily activities and social settings over the following two to three weeks, depending on the extent of their procedure. Swelling continues to gradually improve over several weeks as the neck and jawline become more defined. Final neck lift results continue to refine over the following months as the tissues fully settle and heal.

Do I need a neck lift, a facelift, or both?
It depends on where your aging changes are occurring. A neck lift may be appropriate when loose skin, muscle laxity or fullness is primarily concentrated beneath the chin and through the neck. If jowling and laxity also extend into the lower face, Dr. Paul Denton may recommend a combined face and neck lift to create a more balanced result.
Can I have a neck lift without changing my face?
Yes. Some patients have good facial definition but develop isolated aging of the neck, making a standalone neck lift appropriate. During your consultation, Dr. Denton will assess whether the neck can be treated independently or whether addressing the lower face would provide a more harmonious result.
What is the difference between a deep plane neck lift and a platysmaplasty?
A deep plane neck lift addresses multiple deeper layers of the neck and allows the underlying tissues to be repositioned for more comprehensive contouring. A platysmaplasty focuses specifically on tightening and repositioning the platysma muscle and may be appropriate when muscle separation or visible neck bands are the primary concern. Dr. Denton determines the appropriate technique based on each patient's anatomy.
How long do neck lift results last?
Neck lift results can be long-lasting, particularly when a deep plane approach is used to reposition and support the deeper tissues of the neck rather than relying on skin tightening alone. While the natural aging process will continue, many patients enjoy improved neck and jawline definition for years following surgery. Maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle can help support the longevity of your results.
Can a neck lift improve my jawline and jowls?
A neck lift can significantly improve definition beneath the jaw by addressing lax tissue, loose skin and underlying neck structures. However, prominent jowling originates partly from the lower face, so patients with significant jowls may achieve a more complete result from a combined face and neck lift.
Can a neck lift improve a double chin or fullness under the chin?
Yes, depending on what is causing the fullness. Fat, loose skin, platysmal laxity and deeper anatomical structures can all contribute to the appearance beneath the chin. When excess fat is part of the concern, Dr. Denton may combine neck lift surgery with chin or submental liposuction to further refine the area and improve definition along the neck and jawline.
What age is best for a neck lift?
There is no single ideal age for neck lift surgery. Candidacy depends more on anatomy and the degree of skin, muscle and deeper tissue laxity than on age alone. Some younger patients develop isolated neck concerns because of genetics or weight changes, while others seek surgery later as part of facial rejuvenation.
